Free Font – Mission Gothic

I LOVE this font! I’ve already used it on multiple projects. It’s so fresh, and it does so much!

It’s from the fabulous Lost Type Co-Op. I really like their “name your price” function. I always, always pay a little something for my fonts from them, because they’re just so fabulous. But you can pay $0 and up.🙂

Pinterest Favorites: Creating DIY Statement Art

I love a big, bright focal point in a room. But unfortunately I don’t have an unlimited budget with which to buy artwork! And so, I DIY. Check out these simple DIY’s that allow you to get lots of bang for your buck… and an afternoon of your time.🙂

1. Elephant Print – This is a picture I had on my computer… I hate using things without credit, but I have no idea where I got it. Sorry original poster! If it’s yours, please let me know! I think this is just an engineering print (more on that in a minute) that’s been framed… It might not be, but it could be! Therefore you could make one yourself.🙂
2. DIY Starburst Painting – This one is by me, Jen. I have used this in two different houses now, and I love that it’s a bright pop of color wherever I put it. Right now I have it leaning on a sofa table in my entryway.
3. Giant Photobooth Prints. Engineering prints! Wrap them around a canvas and glue the edges, then just stack them up when you hang them! Such a cute idea.
4. Turn your favorite song, or a song that means something to you into a piece of art.
5. This is a cool idea… And wouldn’t require a canvas beneath, just a simple wooden frame. It’s just a shower curtain wrapped around a frame and stapled. You could use a vintage sheet, a quilt, or a patchwork of your favorite t-shirts, too!
6. A simple painted piece – So cute for the master bedroom. I also love that gumball lamp.
7. Two different ideas in one! That solid black background with the bright yellow flowers, and the song lyrics would be pretty anywhere!
8. Vintage camera printable. Click through the link to download. This is just modpodged over an old thrifted canvas print.
9. Another handwritten piece – I love this!

For most of these ideas, you can either get out your paintbrushes, or you can find something to wrap around, or over your canvas or wooden frame. Staples and Office Depot both have a Blueprint, or Engineering print size available in their print shops. They range from about $1.50 – $13 in price. Since the print size is so big, either plan to use a huuuuuge image, or have some blurriness or pixelation. Since it’s basically a photocopy, it’s not going to be perfect photo quality, but that’s part of the charm of using them. If it’s done right, even pixelation can turn out looking very artsy and intentional.😉

Have you made something like this? Leave me a link in the comments, I’d love to see your ideas!

Life In Instagram – Sailing

life_in_instagram_sailing

The water on the west coast of Florida is seriously gorgeous. It’s light blue, and warm as can be. As soon as it’s nice and warm out, our Jeep sheds his top, and we spend all the time on, and beside the water as we possibly can. This past weekend, we went sailing! It was my first time, though my husband has sailed a lot. It was a lot of fun!

We’re going through some family stuff, and some issues with the house we rent… and it was really nice to get away from all that and enjoy some of the beauty that’s around us. How did you spend your weekend?

Mexican Zucchini Soup

Last night I decided to try something new. I’ve been thinking about limiting my meat intake by quite a lot, especially over the summer while it’s so easy to get delicious fresh veggies and fruits!

I found this recipe on Pinterest, and thought: “I can make something like that with things I already have…”

Mexican Zucchini Soup

Ingredients:
1 Tbs. Butter
1 Small white onion, chopped
4 Cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup Tequila (Mine was infused with jalapeno)
1 Can diced tomatoes with green chilis
2 Cups fresh zucchini, chopped into small pieces
2 Cans chicken or vegetable stock
1 Tbs. Taco seasoning
1 Tbs. Fresh cilantro
1 Cup plain greek yogurt
2 Tbs Asadero or goat cheese
1/2 Cup milk
Salt and Pepper to taste
Tortilla chips for garnish

In a heavy soup pot, melt the butter, and saute the onions and garlic until just starting to be transparent. Add the tequila, tomatoes, zucchini and taco seasoning and saute together until the zucchini begins to soften, then reduce heat and add the chicken broth. Allow to simmer until the veggies are tender.

In a separate smaller pot, heat the milk, then whisk in the cheese and yogurt until melted.

Add the cheese mixture and cilantro to the soup pot and simmer until hot and combined. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Garnish with a sprinkle of crushed tortilla chips, and some green onions.

Serves 4.

I served this dish with homemade guacamole and tortilla chips. It was a yummy, light summer meal!
